What is the Journal to the Self?

The Journal to the Self® Workshop is a proven method of keeping a journal for personal growth and enhancing different areas of your life.

It was created in 1985 by my mentor Kathleen (Kay) Adams, Director of the Center for Journal Therapy, and a well-known pioneer and expert in writing therapy.

More than 100,000 people around the globe have learned this easy, effective, empowering model of journal-keeping through the Journal to the Self method and now, as a Journal to the Self Certified instructor, I get to share it with you!

About Ana Juma

Ana Juma is a journaling educator and certified Journal to the Self instructor, dedicated to supporting people use journaling as a tool for self-guidance and personal growth.

Her journey with journaling began in her teenage years as a way to process emotions and make sense of life’s complexities. Over time, it became a cornerstone of her personal development, leading her to explore its therapeutic and transformative power.

Ana has worked with global wellness brands and built an online presence where she shares insights on how to create a meaningful and sustainable journaling practice. She is currently pursuing a degree at the Therapeutic Writing Institute, deepening her expertise in the field.

Based in Lisbon, Portugal, she hosts journaling sessions every month, makes YouTube videos, and creates journaling tools at Prophsee designed to make the practice more accessible and impactful for people worldwide.

To fully participate in this online class, you’ll need a journal, a pen/pencil, and a willingness to explore your inner world through writing. That’s all!

That’s perfectly fine! While many enjoy the tactile experience of writing by hand, you’re welcome to use a digital device if it suits you better. The key is finding what makes your journaling practice most comfortable and effective.
